The poor quality of sheepskin selection is causing a major problem for UK tanners
Read article (PDF)
In the 25th Anniversary year of the Falklands Island War, Andrew and
June Tinnion spent their summer 07 ‘holidays’ setting
up a micro sheepskin tannery on the Falklands Islands.
To start, the tannery will produce around 1000 sheepskins annually
to supply local needs and tourist souvenirs.
The Falklands' economy depends heavily on sheep farming and adding value to the ‘Fifth Quarter’ makes big sense.

Threat to sheepskin industry. Phew that was close!
Once again, during Summer 07, the UK Sheep Industry has had to fend off sinister reappearances of Foot and Mouth Disease.
Through prompt and draconian measures the Disease was pin-pointed and no-go zones thrown round the outbreaks.
The waiting room is now full of ‘stakeholders’ trusting
the virus has truly been contained.
Meanwhile the food chain has been reconnected - Farmers can take their
animals to Abattoir.
The Real Sheepskin Association is offering a substantial award as a prize for the most innovative use of sheepskin.
This is a wide ranging brief and the only criteria are that the design should feature sheepskin used in and innovative or novel way. It is open to anyone; students, companies or individuals and from any discipiline from manufacturing to concept art.
